What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is an advanced orthodontic treatment system that uses a series of clear, nearly invisible aligners to straighten your teeth. Unlike traditional metal braces, there are no rubber bands, wires, nor brackets. Invisalign aligners are made of SmartTrack®, a thermoplastic free of BPS, BPA, latex, and gluten.

What types of issues can Invisalign correct?

Dr. Mandy typically recommends Invisalign to address mild orthodontic issues, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crossbite
  • Underbite
  • Overbite
  • Jaw misalignments

You may also benefit from orthodontic treatment with Invisalign if you have visible gaps or spaces between your teeth.

What is the Invisalign treatment process?

Invisalign treatment begins with an in-office consultation. During your initial appointment, Dr. Mandy conducts an oral exam, reviews your oral health history, and asks about your treatment goals. She then takes oral X-rays to better understand the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

Dr. Mandy then takes digital impressions of your teeth. Uploads the images to a software program that allows her to develop a custom orthodontic treatment plan that aligns with your needs.

Once Dr. Mandy maps out the step-by-step movements of your teeth and jaw, she sends your impressions to a dental laboratory that manufactures your first set of aligners. A week or two later, you’ll return to CityZEN Dental to try them on.

How long does orthodontic treatment with Invisalign take?

Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign usually takes 6-12 months. For some people, it may take up to 18 months. To achieve the best possible outcome, try to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day, only taking them out to clean. In addition, attend all your follow-up appointments and listen to Dr. Mandy’s instructions carefully. The more you adhere to your treatment plan, the more quickly you’ll see an improvement in your smile.

Are there other types of orthodontic treatment?

Aside from Invisalign, Dr. Mandy offers orthodontic treatment with ClearCorrect. ClearCorrect aligners are very similar to Invisalign. The only difference is that ClearCorrect uses thinner plastic, making them less visible and easy to maintain.

How do I care for my Invisalign aligners?

Caring for your Invisalign aligners is easy. Dr. Mandy recommends rinsing them with cool tap water at least twice a day and gently brushing them with a soft-bristle toothbrush at night before going to bed. For more thorough cleanings, ask Dr. Mandy about Invisalign cleaning crystals.
